General Orientation
Philippine Society: In Crisis
The Philippine society today remains semi-feudal and neo-colonial. It is backward agrarian, pre-industrial and subservient to foreign domination, particularly US imperialism. Such conditions subject the Filipino nation and people in chronic crisis, including the youth.
As such, creates a crisis in the education system whereby it is commercialized—private schools are deregulated, and SCUs (state colleges and universities) are slowly privatized a condition that denies the youth of their basic right to education. Repressive campus policies are prevalent in many schools riding roughshod over students’ academic and democratic rights.
We, the youth, must ceaselessly fight for a scientific, mass oriented and nationalist education, consciously integrating our national democratic propaganda movement with the broad masses in a struggle for national freedom and democracy. It is only then could we attain our aspirations for free quality education.
The Youth for Nationalism and Democracy
It is a political center of the youth movement. YND represents the most advanced analysis of Philippine society, broad, sectoral and local issues confronting the student, youth and the Filipino people as a whole. It firmly believes that the semi-feudal, neo-colonial character of Philippine society can be resolved only by pursuing a national democratic movement, which is our assertion of national sovereignty, and realizing the interests of other democratic classes and sectors.
It is a national democratic mass organization. YND is open to all young people who are willing to work and participate in the struggle for national democracy. It accepts membership without discrimination provided they are ready to abide by the principles, program, constitution of the organization. The mass character of the organization can only be achieved through the building of its chapters in the schools and communities. These chapters will ensure that YND is deeply rooted among the masses of the youth and students.
It is an activist organization. YND will serve as a venue in training and tempering the youth to become determined national democratic activists, upholding the ideals and program of the national democratic movement.
It fully reflects the central task of the youth. To arouse, organize, and mobilize the youth as a powerful coordinate of the masses led by the working class in the great national democratic movement through its national democratic propaganda movement; to actively participate in the struggles of the basic masses and to lead the struggle for students’ democratic rights and welfare.
Tasks:
1. Promote and advance the national-democratic propaganda movement and uphold a nationalistic, mass-oriented and scientific culture.
2. Lead the struggle for the democratic and academic demands and interests of the students and youth and actively support the teachers’ sectoral struggle for their democratic rights and economic welfare.
3. Establish linkages with and support the workers’ movement, the peasant movement, and other exploited and oppressed sectors in their struggles and mobilizations.
4. Assist and support in the building of national-democratic alliances and in uniting the other progressive forces.
5. Link the national democratic struggle of the Filipino people with the struggle of the different peoples and nations of the world against imperialism and gather the broadest support for this aim.
